Junior Hoilett says Cardiff City’s 3-0 victory has given them the perfect platform for the Severnside derby clash with Bristol City.
The Canadian bagged his first goal of the season to put City ahead as victory moved them up to 11th.
But Hoilett says seeing off their Championship rivals at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night would propel them even higher heading into the international break.
“The dressing room is buzzing,” said Hoilett as a penalty from Joe Ralls and Harry Wilson’s scorcher sealed City’s first win in five games.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for that win after some tough draws and the poor result against QPR.
“To get the result, especially leading into this Friday’s fixture and the derby, is great for our confidence and great for the morale in the dressing room.
“It’s a big fixture for the club and for us as well and we want to get the result to help push us up the table going into the international break.”
Hoilett’s goal was his 50th in British football – 24 of them coming for the Bluebirds.
The 30-year-old added: “It’s good to get off the mark for the season.
“I’ve had a few chances in previous games. But it is good to get on the scoresheet, and help the team with a positive start, like it did today.
“We had a game plan to play more direct and make sure we win the second balls off the front two. We set a platform from there.”
