Jasmine Joyce has her sights set on Canada and a place in the Olympic Women’s 7s quarter-finals after making Welsh rugby history.

The Wales wing is set to line-up against the Canadians on Sunday afternoon, where victory would put her team into an Olympic quarter-final.

Jorce became the first Welsh player – man or woman – to play and also score a try in Olympic competition.

The 20-year-old appeared as a second half replacement as her side led 19-3 in their opening game against hosts Brazil at the Deodoro Stadium near Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

She enjoyed a dream start to her tournament when with her first touch, she showed searing pace to outstrip the cover defence and sprint 40 metres to the line.

Her try helped secure a 29-3 win for Team GB, with other scores coming from Natasha Hunt (2), Joanne Watmore, and Emily Scott.

Later, Joyce, from Pembrokeshire again featured as a replacement in Team GB’s second Pool C game with Japan.

Joyce came on midway through the second half with her side cruising 33-0 with tries from Amy Wilson-Hardy, Alice Richardson, Katy McLean, Watmore, and Scott.

And although she was sin binned for blocking a quick tap penalty after being penalised at the breakdown, it did not effect the outcome as Heather Fisher crossed to round off a 40-0 win.
