Catrin Jones smashed her own Welsh record at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast on Friday.
The 18-year-old added 10kg to her record in the 53Kg class with a total of 165kg to finish 11th on her Games debut in Australia.
Jones, who is coached by her father David, registered a 72Kg in the snatch and 93Kg in the clean and jerk at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
The petite powerhouse used to be a gymnast before switching to weightlifting but reckons her former sport has helped her rapid rise.
The Bodelwyddian-born lifter said: “We used to do loads of strength work, which was a really good foundation. It was also really good for flexibility, which gets drilled into you at a young age.”
Jones showed her promise winning gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa in 2015 but competing at the Games was a huge learning experience.
She added of the Youth Games: It was a good stepping stone, as it was also in front of a big crowd.
“This is the first senior international I’ve done, which just happens to be the Commonwealth Games, so I’m happy with that.”
