Jade Jones admitted she is buzzing after marking her Taekwondo comeback with gold at the German Open in Hamburg
The Flint fighter triumphed in Sunday’s final after her Canadian opponent in the -57kg category, Ivett Gonda, was forced to withdraw through injury.
But Jones did have four bouts on the way to the gold medal decider to give her vital mat time in her first competition for four months.
The 23-year-old, who had been sidelined with a knee problem, said: “I was a bit nervous before my first fight. But I loved being back and was buzzing.”
Jones is virtually assured of selection for Rio with Wednesday marking 100 day countdown to a Games where she will defend the title she won in London.
And Jones added: “It just feels you are running out of time, but we are ready for it.”
Jones will compete at next month’s European Championship in Montreux, Switzerland, after which the Games team will be announced.
