Joel Makin saw his Qatar Classic hopes dashed after a 79-minute five-game epic in the quarter-finals.
The 26-year-old was beaten 3-2 by Egypt’s reigning World Champion Tarek Momen who finally got the better of his Welsh nemesis.
Makin rallied after trailing 2-1 to take the match into a decider before being edged out by the No 3 seed 11-9, 7-11, 5-11, 11-8, 7-11.
No 8 seed Makin had gone into the match having beaten Momen on their previous three meetings.
