Joel Makin saw his Qatar Classic hopes dashed after a 79-minute five-game epic in the quarter-finals.
The 26-year-old was beaten 3-2 by Egypt’s reigning World Champion Tarek Momen who finally got the better of his Welsh nemesis.
Makin rallied after trailing 2-1 to take the match into a decider before being edged out by the No 3 seed 11-9, 7-11, 5-11, 11-8, 7-11.
No 8 seed Makin had gone into the match having beaten Momen on their previous three meetings.
And it all started well for the world No 10 as he took the first game in 14 minutes.
Makin – who has won his first two matches 3-0 – lost his first game of the tournament as Momen levelled.
The Egyptian took the third game before Makin responded but it was Momen who emerged the win er after a court battle.
