I’m The Daddy Says Federico After Breaking Swans Duck

Federico Fernandez proved he is the Daddy after bagging a crucial winner with his first goal for Swansea City.

The Argentine centre-back’s maiden goal since his move from Napoli in May 2013 saw the Swans see off Aston Villa.

Fernandez celebrated by tucking the ball under his jersey and sucking his thumb – just like he told pregnant girlfriend Florence he would.

The 27-year-old explained: “We are waiting for our first child in September, so it is a very emotional time.

“I told her I would celebrate like that if I scored. So it was perfect.

“I don’t remember the goal! I was going to stop but the ball hit me on the shoulder.

“It was what we needed, it is a goal and you take the chance to score.

“I feel happy. It was very important for us in this moment.

“It wasn’t a great performance but the result and three points was massive. I’m very happy for the group to win.”

Fernandez netted after Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick was missed by Brad Guzan as the Villa keeper came out to punch clear.

The win eased the pressure on the Swans who have all but secured safety with seven games left.

But Fernandez insisted: “We need maybe a point or three more points.

“But this is a very good step, now we rest and focus on another seven finals. Probably need one more win.

“Defending is my job and keeping a clean sheet is what is important. But to get a goal like that was a special moment.

“It’s been difficult but now we can relax a little bit. Every game, every week, it is a very tough league.

“It changes a lot and we need a point to stay calm in the last weeks. My first season here we played very well and the club finished in eight place.

“This season is another thing but that’s football, sometimes good, sometimes not.

“What is important is that the club stays another season in the Premier League.”
