Holroyd’s Late Winner Seals Comeback Win For Wrexham

Dean Keates hailed his Wrexham side after a comeback 2-1 victory over Eastleigh extended their unbeaten run to 10 games.

Shaun Pearson and Chris Holroyd struck in the space of five second-half minutes at the Racecourse Ground to lift the Reds to fifth place in the National League.

Keates had seen his side trail at the break after Ben Williamson netted from Gary McSheffrey’s whipped cross.

But Pearson’s clinical header from a Marcus Kelly cross drew Wrexham level on 73 minutes.

Then five minutes later Holroyd struck from inside the box for his second goal of the season.

Keates said: ”We’re delighted with the win as they came with a good structure, were hard to break down.

“We had a lot of ball, moved it okay but not at the pace and the tempo to cause them problems.

“It was important to get the win, we’ve had a lot of draws that maybe should have been wins.”

Wrexham’s last defeat came at Maidstone in mid-August.

Since then they have won five and drawn five games to move up the table to within three points of leaders Macclesfield Town.
