Natasha Harding says Wales are targeting another three points from their Women’s World Cup qualifying tie in Russia on October 24.
Wales opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Kazakhstan in September which leaves them second in Group A.
England top the table after their 6-0 thrashing of Russia who will be looking to get their challenge back on track on home soil in St Petersburg.
“People on the outside might have looked at that result and thought we should have scored more goals, but we always said it was about the three points,” said 28-year-old Harding of the win in Astana.
“For us, it has been about building confidence and building a squad that we believe has a chance in these qualifiers.
“Our target is to make the play-offs – if anything else happens then of course that would be fantastic.
“Russia’s defeat to England was obviously a bad day for them. We haven’t really looked at that result because we don’t want to go in under false hopes.
“I believe that on our day we can get things right and get the result we want.
“That has been our focus all week so far and we genuinely believe we have a chance. If we get things right on the day then we are more than capable of getting three points. We want to win the game.”
Jess Fishlock bagged the only goal in Kazakhstan to continue a good run of form for Jayne Ludlow’s squad.
Wales lost just one of their final six qualifiers for EURO 2017 as well as tasting victory over Portugal back last June.
Caerphilly-born Harding, speaking to FAW website, added: “The last campaign started a little bit downhill, but we improved in the second half of it.
“This time we have started how we finished the last group.
“Over the summer we also played some good friendlies (Portugal and Holland). We didn’t have a full squad against Holland but they are a good enough team to cause anyone problems and obviously went on to win the Euros last summer.
“That was a big learning curve for us and that has galvanised us to take the positives heading into every game we play.”
