Francesco Guidolin is ready to sit down and talk to Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins over his future – but only if they beat Chelsea on Saturday.

The Italian has always insisted he is keen to carry on as Swans boss but would only discuss a new deal once the club were safe.

Guidolin’s side would hit the 40 points safety milestone if they beat the Blues for the first time in the Premier League in the clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The 60-year-old Italian said: “We can change our history, we have that possibility, and I hope to be the first manager to beat Chelsea.

“But Chelsea are a good, important team, they have not lost under Guus Hiddink but we can play with aggressiveness, courage and character.

“We have never beaten them but we want the three points for safety.

“I hope to speak to the chairman then, hopefully in the next days or weeks. That is the agreement.”

Guidolin, who took over in January, insists he is keen to remain in South Wales though speculation persists that ex-manager Brendan Rodgers will be returning to the Liberty.

He has also been linked with the Italy job as successor to Antonio Conte who will join Chelsea after the Euro2016 finals in France.

Guidolin added: “It is only rumours, I have not spoken to the Italian FA.

“If my name is on the list for the Italian job, I don’t know. It is an honour for me because I’m Italian but I am proud to work here.”
