Gresford Punish Airbus In Six-Goal Alliance Clash

Gresford Athletic punished Airbus Broughton for their defensive frailties and won 4-2 in the Cymru Alliance.

Airbus have conceded 20 goals in their last six matches and their promotion dream is fading fast.

Gresford manager Steve Halliwell was able to celebrate his manager of the month presentation thanks to the win.

Former Airbus player Jake Eyre gave Gresford a 10th minutes lead, while Alonso Fosu-Mensah goal equalised and four minutes into the second half Wes Baynes struck to put the Airmen ahead.

At that stage Airbus looked composed, but they collapsed from that winning position.

Their lead lasted five minutes before Jack Chaloner equalised after a great run and cross by Dave McIntyre.

Gresford went ahead for second time when Mike Lathan converted after a controversial penalty award. Airbus goalkeeper Andy Coughlin saved his spot-kick, but Lathan netted from the rebound.

Owen Roberts sealed the points for Athletic when he powered home a header from a 82nd minute corner

In the only other game of the day a Mel McGuiness goal after 78 minutes gave Holyhead Hotspur a 1-0 win at Llandudno Junction.
