Great Scott: Dominant Davies Roars To Fourth TT Title

Scott Davies maintained his domination of the National Under-23 Time Trial Championships as he swept to a fourth successive title.

The Carmarthen flier won the event on the Isle of Man by a huge 50 seconds from his closest challenger.

Davies, who started last as defending champ, clocked 28 minutes 20.33 seconds.

The Team Wiggins rider first won the event in Monmouthshire in 2014 though – to his rivals’ relief – this will be his last title as he turns 23 next year and will be too old.

Davies, who began with the Towy Riders club, said: “It’s brilliant – it’s a really nice feeling to do it for a fourth time.

“I just kept telling myself to give it my all, and if that turned out to be enough for the win, then brilliant.

“This is my last year at under-23, so I hope the record stands for a while.

“It’ll be a step up for me next year – double the distance – so I’ve got some training to do!”

One Pro Cycling’s Tom Baylis won silver in 29:09.99 with long-time leader Charlie Tanfield (Brother NRG), third in 29:11.26.

There was disappointment for Elinor Barker as Wales’ Olympic and world track champion suffered a puncture in the women’s race a couple of miles from the finish.

The Cardiff-born rider still clocked 33:30.13 to take fifth spot – and will now compete in the road race..

Barker tweeted: “Bit of a s*** day for me puncturing at nationals TT. 5th after doing the last 5k on my road bike. Onto the road race.

“Also apologies for the spectators for a few choice words. I promise I’m nicer when I’m not puncturing at 80kph round a bend.”
