Scott Burgess, Wrexham’s new midfield signing, is eyeing up a Vanarama National League title double.
Warrington-born Burgess, who celebrated his 21st birthday this month, helped Macclesfield win the championship last season the National League title last season.
Wrexham are intent on promotion back to the Football League this season and Burgess, signed on loan from Bury for six months, would love to clinch back-to-back titles.
Manager Sam Ricketts and his Wrexham team stand top of the table and he says: “Scott is a young lad who knows the National League well. He was promoted with Macclesfield last season and knows what it takes to be successful.”
Burgess has no doubts about his focus with the North Walians, saying: “Macclesfield went up as champions and I want to do the same with Wrexham this season.
“I’m really excited about joining Wrexham. They have had an amazing start.”
Wrexham have six loan players in their squad and that’s the maximum allowed in a match day 18, but there now a limit on how many loans a club can make.
They have earned 13 points from five matches so far and lead the table, while they play Bromley at the Racecourse on Saturday before heading to Solihull Moors on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3pm).
“Performances have been okay, but I want us to improve,” said Ricketts.”There are areas where he need to be better.
More than 6,000 spectators are expected at the Racecourse for Wrexham’s clash with Bromley and striker Chris Holroyd said: “I love playing in front of a big crowd, it’s great to have that big atmosphere about the place.
“When there is a real feelgood factor in the ground it can only benefit us as players and as a club.
“Our fanbase is one of the great plusses we have. It’s a two-way relationship and if we show them a high level of commitment I know they’ll play a massive part in helping us through this season.”
Holroyd has been among the substitutes for the last two matches after recovering from a foot injury and is likely to be involved with Wrexham playing two matches in three days.
Goalkeeper Rob Lainton has kept four clean sheets in five fixtures so far, while Wrexham have scored nine goals.
