Swansea City manager Graham Potter insists Andre Ayew’s deal to move to Fenerbahce is part of the “re-structure” of the club.
Ghanaian striker Ayew has joined the Turkish club on a one-year loan deal, just six months after the Swans paid a club record £18m for him and handed out a three-and-a-half year contract.
He is part of £33.5m worth of striking talent the club have sent out on loan, following Borja Baston’s move to Spanish side Alaves.
Both players were among the highest wage-earners at the club and Potter admitted: “I understand the circumstances of the move – it’s part of the restructure of us going forward.
“From my perspective he (Ayew) has been brilliant. He has applied himself in training, supported what we are trying to do and been very professional. He has been a joy to work with and we wish him the best.”
Ayew left the Swans’ pre-season tour in Austria to Turkey for a medical ahead of his move to the Super Lig, which will be completed subject to international clearance.
The 28-year-old returned to Swansea in January, having left for West Ham for £20.5m in the summer of 2016.
Ayew first moved to the Liberty Stadium – where he was later joined by younger brother Jordan – in 2015, from Marseille, and made 34 appearances and scored 12 goals.
In his second spell he made 12 appearances in total and failed to score.
He joins Baston, the Spaniard who is also out on a season-long loan deal.
The 25-year-old will spend a second straight campaign on loan in La Liga, having played for Malaga in 2017-18.
Borja – who joined Swansea for a club record £15.5m from Atletico Madrid in 2016, but made just four Premier League starts – moved to Alaves after they finished 14th in the Spanish top flight last season.
