Rising Wales star Ffion Tynan was the best Under 16 at the English Girls’ Open Amateur Championship, with two Wales players in the top ten of the Under 18 event.
Tynan, from Pontyclun, finished tied seventh overall, with Newport Links’ Carys Worby one shot further back tied ninth in a strong showing for the Wales pair.
Tynan started slowly with rounds of 74 and 75, but rounds of 70 and 72 to finish propelled her up the leaderboard, in the vent won overall by Germany’s Marie Bechtold.
“I battled hard this week through sickness and was really pleased to finished tied seventh and happy to pick up the best U16 award,” said Tynan.
New Wales Girls champion Eleanor Willis, Bristol and Clifton, also made the cut, along with Ellen Nicholas of Ham Manor.
“This is another good performance for Ffion, winning the Under 16’s category against a strong international field,” said Wales Golf director of performance, Gillian O’Leary.
“It follows on from playing in the Junior Vagliano Trophy team, performing well for Wales Girls in the European Team Championships and finishing 14th in the European Young Masters last week.
“It is also good to have two Wales players in the top 10 of such a strong field, which shows we have a good group of players coming through who have worked really hard through the winter and into this season.
“There are still some big events coming up this season, including the Home Internationals in Dundee.”
