Geraint Thomas suffered a dislocated shoulder while on a training ride on Sunday.
Wales’ 2018 Tour de France champ insisted he would be back riding on Monday – on his turbo trainer.
The crash is understood to have happened on the roads near his home in Monaco as he begins preparations for the new season.

“Not the Sunday I was expecting… Crashed on some ice and dislocated my shoulder,” Thomas wrote on Instagram. “It’s back in now, after a rather painful 2hrs, but no fractures. So all good to get on the turbo tomorrow.”
Thomas had been recuperating back in Cardiff after he suffered a fractured pelvis on stage three of the Giro d’Italia in October.
The 34-year-old was favourite to win his second Grand Tour until the freak incident near Mount Etna on Sicily when a water bottle got caught in his front wheel.
Thomas later admitted he struggled to watch the rest of the Giro as fellow Team Ineos rider Tao Geoghegan Hart triumphed.
Wales’ double Olympic team pursuit champ is expected to target the Tour de France next year having missed out on selection this year, but could also return to the Giro.
