Full-back Dan Summerfield has rejoined Merthyr Town and goes straight into their squad for Saturday’s home match against Blackfield and Langley at the MetCoaches Stadium (3pm).
“It’s great to have Dan back at the club,” said Martyrs player-manager Gavin Williams. “We’ve had a lot of injuries this season defensively and to have Dan back is a great addition to the squad.”
Summerfield, aged 24, spent three seasons with Merthyr from 2013 before leaving to study at Birmingham University.
The right-sided player is an accomplished defender who can play anywhere across the back four. His former clubs include Swansea City, Newport County, Halesowen and Stratford Town.
He was in Merthyr’s Southern League South & West winning team under former manager Steve Jenkins in 2014.
The talented full-back rejoins the Martyrs from JD Cymru Premiership Penybont, who are playing in the top tier of Welsh Football for the first time in their history.
Saturday’s visitors Blackfield have earned promotion in each of the last two seasons, winning the Wessex League title and then being crowned champions of Southern League Division One South.
The visit of Hampshire team Blackfield is on non-League Day, an event which has been held for a decade, while both teams will be wearing anti-racism T-shirts before kick-off.
Our club ambassador this season is Mackenzie Thomas, who says: “Racism in football is ever growing therefore supporting this campaign is a massive thing to all that suffer racist abuse.
“I would encourage everybody at the football club to help grow and support this campaign over the weekend.”
Merthyr were knocked out of the Southern League Cup by Cinderford Town earlier this month and the Forest of Dean team have been drawn against Swindon Supermarine away in the second round.
