Francesco Guidolin is hopeful Swansea City will do more transfer business before the deadline on Wednesday evening.

The Italian saw him team outplayed more comprehensively than the 2-1 scoreline suggests at Leicester City on Saturday.

The defeat highlighted more of the Swans’ shortcomings following their home defeat to Hull City, but any further player dealings by the club are likely to be modest.

Although manager, Guidolin is not empowered to lead recruitment and leaves that to chairman Huw Jenkins.

A deal for Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson – which could be worth up to £5m – is close to being finalised.

Guidolin said: “I’m optimistic [for signings] but I have always said that I’m happy with this group.

“We are working to sign a player – a central defender. This is all I know at the moment because the chairman is working for this situation.”

Victory might have earned the Swans three Premier League away wins in a row for the first time in two years, but Guidolin admitted that their lacklustre opening 45 minutes ruined their chances of getting anything from the game.

“Leicester deserved to win because in the first half they were more aggressive and we didn’t play well.

“We improved in the second half and had the possibility to draw, but I think the result was right. Leicester look even stronger than last season.”

With record club signing Borja Baston still out with a thigh injury, Guidolin will now hope to strengthen his squad before the end of the window after assistant manager Alan Curtis said the capture of another forward would be “a bonus”.
