Leon Britton Ready To Aid Llanelli’s Relegation Battle After Shock Move

Leon Britton hopes to use his vast experience to help Llanelli Town in their Welsh Premier League relegation fight.

The Swansea City legend has come out of retirement to join the Stebonheath Park outfit who are second from bottom.

Midfield ace Britton played over 500 times for the Swans and was a crucial player in their astonishing rise to the Premier League and qualifying for Europe.

“The task at hand is to help the team push up the table and I want to go back to enjoying football,” said the 36-year-old who retired at the end of the 2017-18 season.

“The last couple of years at the Swans was difficult.

“I’m delighted to be here. I’m looking forward to working with Andy and the team as soon as possible.

“I’ve experienced relegation battles. They’re always tough but hopefully I can use the experience I have to try and help the team.”

Britton – whose Premier League career ended at Stoke last May – will continue in his role as a Swansea City ambassador

The club stalwart joins a Llanelli outfit which faces a crunch clash against Llandudno but is a major coup for the Stebonheath Park club.

Llanelli boss Andy Hill said: “We’re just grateful to Leon for coming on board with us.

“We’ve still got a job to do on the pitch and that’s the main focus.

“First thing that jumps out is Leon is a born leader and something we need more of on the pitch. We need experience to guide us and Leon will bring that.

“All the players can’t wait to get going with him. Leon will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game.”
