Flynn And Hatswell Join Forces, While Josh Sheehan Returns To Swansea City

Mike Flynn and Wayne Hatswell have joined forces to take charge of Newport County’s final 12 League Two fixtures of the season.

They start their new roles with back-to-back away matches against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday and then Morecambe next Tuesday.

County, who already look doomed to relegation, are 11 points from safety and the club relieved manager Graham Westley of his duties this week.

Newport-born Flynn has been appointed until the end of this season with assistant Hatswell by his side.

Flynn is in his fourth spell with County as a player, while Hatswell has been in charge of Gillingham’s youth team. He was with Newport from December 2010 and played in the side that reached the 2012 FA Trophy final.

He left at the end of that season, but returned as first-team coach in May 2013 and became assistant to Jimmy Dack after Justin Edinburgh left to take over at Gillingham.

Now he is back in South Wales and helping Flynn plan for what could be a difficult spell between now and the end of this season.

They are now without Josh Sheehan, who has returned to Swansea City.

He has been ruled out for the rest of this season because of injury and his loan spell at Newport has ended.

Former manager Warren Feeney signed Sheehan on loan in August and the 21-year-old scored six times in 24 appearances.

“Josh Sheehan has returned to Swansea City for medical treatment after sustaining a long-term injury which will rule him out until the end of the season,” said County.

Newport crashed 4-0 at home against Leyton Orient in their last fixture and they are 11 points from safety.

Newport have earned only one win in their last 20 fixtures and they look doomed to relegation, but Flynn and Hatswell will at least hope they can help County find improved form over the remaining fixtures.
