Elfyn Evans kept on course for a second WRC2 win in a row after maintaining his lead in Rally Sweden.

The Dolgellau-born racer takes a cushion of almost 18 seconds into the final day after again proving his speed in the premier support series.

But the second day of the three-day event was not without its dramas for the Welshman as he suffered a damaged steering arm in his Ford Fiesta R5.

Evans and new co-driver Crag Parry had to carry out emergency road-side repairs to keep his lead over his closest challengers.

The 27-year-old said: “The day started really well for us with a strong time through the first stage and then we had a problem with the steering towards the end of the third.

“I wasn’t sure what it was at the time but there was a strange feeling inside the car and we definitely lost some seconds there.

“We managed to find the problem and make a temporary fix on the road section, but I wasn’t feeling 100 percent comfortable with the way the car was driving after that.

“But f everything goes to plan then we should have a big enough margin going into the final stage.”

Evans has a 17.9 second lead over Škoda Motorsport’s Pontus Tidemand as he looks to follow-up last month’s victory in the season opener in Monte Carlo.
