Elfyn Evans is set for a points finish on his World Championship return after a super Saturday on the Monte Carlo Rally.
The Dolgellau-born flier won three of the five special stages in the Alps with a blistering show of speed.
Evans is now sixth overall with just four stages left on Sunday before the finish.
The 28-year-old had found his return to the championship after a year in WRC2 less than gripping in the opening two days.
But Evans found Saturday’s less icy conditions more to his liking in the DMACK M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC car.
Speaking after one of his stage wins, Evans said: ”It doesn’t matter about the time at this stage, when you get this car on dry Tarmac… oi, oi!
“That’s what this is about.”
Evans is seven minutes 27.2 secs behind four-time world champion Sebastien Ogier who is driving a Michelin-shot M-Sport Fiesta.
But the fact he was quicker than the Frenchman on the stages will be a huge boost to Evans.
Ogier snatched the lead on the final stage of the day – stage 13 – after Thierry Neuville damaged his suspension.
Ogier now leads by 47.1 secs from Estonia’s Ott Tanak who was also in an M-Sport car with Toyota’s Jari-Matti Latvala third.
