Wales squash stars Tesni Evans and Joel Makin have both qualified for the last 16 of the US Open in Philadelphia.
Evans beat Egypt’s Mariam Metwally 3-1 in 44 minutes of action, triumphing 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, in her second round match.
Next up for the world No 12 from Rhyl – who had a first round bye – is a clash with No 2 seed Joelle King of New Zealand.

Makin, who has reached a career high 33 in the world, come through a gruelling 86 minute battle with France’s Mathieu Castagnet 4-11, 15-13, 15-9, 12-10.
The 23-year-old from Haverfordwest, now based in Birmingham, had needed just 39 minutes to see off Qatar’s Abdullah Al-Tamimi 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 in the first round.
Unseeded Makin will face Egypt’s No 2 seed Ali Farag in the third round.
