Evans Aiming To Bounce Back In Argentina After Corsica Crash

Elfyn Evans has already set his sights on the next World Rally Championship round in Argentina after a disappointing Tour de Corse.

The Dolgellau-born driver finished 21st on an event where he is normally a strong contender after sliding out on Saturday.

Evans, who suffered hydraulic problems on the opening day, was able to resume in his DMACK-clad Fiesta under Rally 2 regulations on Sunday but it was a rally he will quickly want to forget.

The 28-year-old admitted there was no chance of getting back on track with the car after his incident on SS6.

Evans said: “I just understeered off. A third-gear left corner tightened, I touched the brakes and off she went.

“The front of the car dropped off the road, down maybe three feet or so, but that was enough and the car wasn’t coming back.

“This has always been one of my favourite events so it’s disappointing not to have been in a position to have challenged for a strong result.

“What with the problems on the opening day, and the mistake, it’s just not been our rally.

“But it’s not been a wasted weekend by all means. We’ve learnt a lot and collected a lot of information that we can use to be stronger at the next asphalt event.

“Now, all focus is on Argentina – and it’ll be all guns blazing there!”

Evans is now ninth in the drivers’ standings with the next round in Argentina on April 28-30.
