Elinor Barker will attempt to add to her world titles in Appeldoorn, in the Netherlands this week when she joins 21 other British riders in chasing a coveted rainbow jersey.
The Olympic champion managed to clinch the Points title at last year’s worlds in Hong Kong and will be a strong favourite to win it again after another impressive season. She also features in the Team Pursuit squad that includes Laura Kenny, Emily Kay, Emily Nelson, Ellie Dickinson and Katie Archibald.
The British women have won the title seven times previously, own the world record, are the reigning Olympic champions, but haven’t taken this particular gold medal since 2014.
Barker, who will be heading to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next month to compete with her younger sister, Megan, in Team Wales, is also joining Archibald in the Madison event. They teamed up together to win gold at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester in November.
