Keelan Giles should not be pushed too hard, too soon, his Ospreys coach Steve Tandy has warned.
Giles, still only 18, has been called up to train with Wales this week after his hat-trick of tries for his region at the weekend in their 31-13 victory over Lyon in the European Challenge Cup.
The Wales U20 wing has been joined by his age-group team-mates Rhun Williams, Leon Brown and Harri Keddie after being sent for by Wales coach Rob Howley, although they are not officially part of the squad.
Giles’ rapid progress has led to speculation that he could even figure for Wales against Australia on November 5, but Tandy has urged restraint.
“He’s electric and it’s really pleasing for us to have young guys stepping up, but it’s a case of just making sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves with Keelan,” said Tandy.
“He’s a young kid, he’s professional, and I know that group in there (the Ospreys squad) won’t leave him get too far ahead of himself, but it’s about making sure he can do it consistently, week in, week out.”
Giles, Cardiff Blues full-back Williams, and Dragons pair Brown and Keddie were all part of the squad that won the U20 Six Nations Grand Slam last season.
Keddie earned his first senior Dragons start in their loss to Russian side Enisei-STM in their European Challenge Cup tie at the weekend.
