Jamie Donaldson went ‘old school’ this week as he was given a golfing education ahead of the Northern Trust Open in California.
The Welshman, who injured his finger last month in an accident with a chainsaw, was part of a group of leading players invited to use vintage golf clubs from various eras.
Donaldson joined Rory McIlroy, Stuart Appleby, Anirban Lahiri and Charley Hoffman in using the old sticks to mark the US Tour tournament’s 90th anniversary.
“It feels pretty soft – like hitting a bar of soap,” said Donaldson after using an antique driver off the first tee.
Donaldson is currently ranked at number 51 in the world after winning the Thailand Gold Championship in December.
Despite his injury, he returned to play the SMBC Singapore Open and Omega Dubai Desert Classic, but missed the cut at both events.
Donaldson’s victory in Thailand booked his placed for both the Masters and The Open later this year.
