Cardiff Devils face one of their biggest Elite League home matches of the season at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday.
Fife Flyers and Belfast Giants are currently Devils’ biggest rivals for the title – and Scottish club Flyers visit Cardiff Bay this weekend.
Kirkcaldy-based Flyers are playing down their chances, but they know Devils are out to impose their authority against them and will be fired up for the challenge.
“Talk of a title challenge is always something to look forward to, but we’re taking it one game at a time,” said Fife forward Evan Bloodoff.
“It’s important we don’t get too ahead of ourselves. We know we’ve got a few games in hand and we’ll make sure we’ll make the most of those when they come.
“We’re rolling well as a team right now and really gelling together.
“The wins are coming and we’ve got a lot of guys scoring and contributing. Having that depth is great and it gives us great confidence going forward.”
Flyers, who play in the Gardiner Conference along with Edinburgh, Dundee and Braehead, have what looks an easier run-in than Devils, who play more of their fixtures against Nottingham, Sheffield and Belfast in the Erhardt Conference.
Their run of nine successive League wins before a 5-2 defeat at Coventry Blaze lifted them into contention, while Belfast are in the title mix and play 16 of their remaining 22 matches at home.
The arrival of new signing Brady Ramsey, a 24-year-old Canadian forward, is a plus for Fife.
The former Sheffield Steelers player adds to Fife’s depth and describes himself as ‘an energy guy, defensively responsible and able to play the penalty kill when called on.’
Ramsey, who will wear number 36, has played for Chicago Blackhawks’ East Coast League affiliate the Indy Fuel, Tulsa Oilers, Stockton Thunder and Ontario Reign.
Devils travel to Nottingham Panthers for a League match on Saturday (7pm) before the entertain Flyers on Sunday (6pm).
Cardiff will host Sheffield Steelers in the Challenge Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, February 7 (7.30pm).
The match is not included on season tickets, but holders will have their regular seat held until 5pm on Monday, January 29. From the following day all season ticket seats not booked will be put on general sale.
Season Ticket Holders are now able to book their seats by telephone on 0800 0842 666 or in person at Ice Arena Wales main reception.
The February 7 home game against the Steelers was originally going to be an Elite League match. That league fixture will now be played in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday, March 14.
