Chaz Davies saw a brave bid to snatch victory in the second World Superbikes race of the season dashed by a crash in Australia.
The Knighton-born racer tried to overtake reigning champ Jonathan Rea on the final lap at Phillip Island.
Davies was looking for revenge after losing out in a last lap battle to the Ulsterman on Saturday after which he vowed to look at his race strategy.
But the move did not pay-off and Davies ended up in the gravel but he managed to get back on his Ducati to finish 10th.
Davies had overtaken Rea on the previous lap only to see his Kawasaki rival regain the advantage with his straight-line speed.
The 29-year-old said: “Usually I’m able to brake pretty deep, but this time unfortunately I found the limit of the front tyre.
“I knew it was a risky move, and ideally I wouldn’t have had to try it, but unfortunately Rea erased the small gap I built on the straight.
“Anyway, I’m not disappointed about my race. We fought for the victory in both races and the bike showed much improvement since last year, especially with the electronics.
“We just need a bit more top speed.”
Having finished second on Saturday, Davies left Australia fourth in the title standings 24 points behind his Kawasaki rival.
The next round is in Thailand on Saturday week (March 12).
