Chaz Davies escaped serious injury after crashing out of the World Superbikes race in Italy on Sunday.

The Powys flier lost control of his Ducati at turn 14 of the Misano track just two laps into the 21-lap race.

Davies – who finished fourth in Saturday’s race after charging from last place – got back on the bike but was forced to retire.

The 29-year-old said: “I’m just disappointed because we have shown a good pace and great potential on this track throughout the weekend.

“But we could not bring it to fruition.

“Saturday we had the opportunity to win, and today we were ready to climb back after a cleaner start.

“It’s hard to explain the crash, I didn’t feel on the limit and I had the same corner speed and lean angle, but this is racing sometimes.

“At least I didn’t sustain serious injuries. My right wrist is sore but hopefully I’ll be back to 100 per cent soon and fight for better results in Laguna Seca.”

Davies will head to the next race in California next month still third in the Championship standings with 244 points.

But he is now 99 points behind defending champ Jonathan Rea who completed the Italian double and 33 behind the other Kawasaki of 2013 champ Tom Sykes.
