Davies Ready As World Superbikes Title Battle Hotting Up

Chaz Davies is ready to turn-up the heat in the World Superbikes title battle in more ways than one in Malaysia this weekend.

The Knighton-born rider has won four of the last six races after roaring to stunning double triumphs in Spain and last time out at Imola.

The wins have cut his deficit to reigning champ and title pacesetter Jonathan Rea to 35 points heading into this weekend’s round in Sepang’s sweltering conditions.

But Davies reckons his form has proved his Ducati Panigale R bike can be competitive on many of the circuits left to visit as the championship battle hots up.

The 29-year-old said: “We head to Sepang with good momentum, following two great results in Italy.

“In the last races, we’ve found a quite versatile set-up that works on different tracks and allows me to ride close to the limit without passing it.

“The bike also reacts well to each change we make, and usually we know exactly where to intervene to improve.

“We need to stay on this course to further cut the gap in the championship.

“In Sepang, in 2015, we scored an unexpected win.

“This year, the track was repaved and I heard the banking changed in some corners, so it will be a somewhat new track for everyone and there will be more variables to take into account.”
