Kody Davies dedicated his American debut to the memory of Enzo Calzaghe and came up with a performance of which the great man would have been proud.
The 24-year-old Welsh light heavyweight prospect made it eight wins out of eight with an unanimous decision over Jerhed Fenderson over eight round at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, California. All three judges awarded the fight to Davies, 80-72.
“We wanted to dedicate this fight to the great Enzo Calzaghe. He was my trainer, Gavin Rees’s former trainer and a close family friend,” said Davies.

Davies used his jab to good effect in the opening round before picking up the pace with harder punches in the second round. After that he calmly outboxed and outclassed Fenderson to post one of his best victories to date.
Davies added: “Not a lot of people get the chance to fight in America, and if they do it is normally later in their careers. For me, it was all about doing a job.”
