Eight-time JD Welsh Cup winners Bangor City have been drawn at home against Level 5 Penydarren BGC in tonight’s quarter-final draw.
Merthyr minnows Penydarren are the only club outside of the Welsh Premier League to reach the last eight of the competition following their latest scalp against Pontypridd Town.
Bangor City have lifted the Welsh Cup more than any other club in the Welsh system and will be amongst this season’s favourites to reach the final for the first time since 2013.
In a repeat of last year’s semi-final, Welsh Premier heavyweights Connah’s Quay and The New Saints have been drawn together. On that occasion The New Saints won 3-0 at the Deeside Stadium before going on to be lose in the final. The Saints will be eying a semi-final place as they look to complete the domestic treble, having already won the League Cup earlier this month and forged a strong lead at the top of the Welsh Premier League title which is unlikely to be challenged.
Carmarthen Town host west-Wales rivals Aberystwyth Town and Llandudno’s tie with Newtown concludes the draw for the last eight.
Ties to be played over the first weekend of March with a further announcement to be made confirming live television coverage.
