Craig Moore, Cardiff Devils’ fast and feisty Scottish forward, is out injured until well into the new year.
He suffered a lower body injury during Cardiff’s 3-0 win against Belfast Giants and will need surgery.
Coach Andrew Lord said: “Craig has been great this season and this is a big blow for us.
“He has been such a spark plug for this team.
“We feel awful for Craig. Nobody likes to be injured, especially because this is his first year with us and after the start he has had.”
Moore has become a real favourite with Devils fans. His high-energy style of play has made him extremely popular on and off the ice with the supporters.
Justin Faryna and Patrick Asselin are back in the Devils team after injuries, while Joey Haddad and Mark Louis are close to playing again.
Lord’s team are in Scotland today for their match against Dundee Stars (7.30pm face-off).
Devils have earned six successive wins, but they face a difficult time against a Stars team who won 2-0 against Belfast Giants in their last fixture.
Dundee are still without five of their skaters, but netminder Travis Fullerton is in outstanding form and kept a shut-out against Giants.
Former Stars player Faryna will be looking to continue his good form for Devils, having scored three of their 10 goals last weekend in wins against Belfast (3-0) and Edinburgh (7-2).
Neil Wilson is referee for a third Devils match in five days. They have two fixtures this weekend, at home against Fife Flyers on Saturday (Ice Arena Wales, 7pm) before travelling to Nottingham Panthers the next day (4pm).
Devils are currently fourth in the Elite League table, but they have games in hand on leaders Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers above them.
