Craig Bellamy takes his Cardiff City under-19 team to Ely Rangers for a Welsh Youth Cup first round tie this evening (Thursday).

Former Bluebirds and Wales player Bellamy is Cardiff’s player development manager and he takes charge of the club’s under-18 team for Academy matches.

He also takes charge for the Welsh Cup, which has a slightly different age level.

Cardiff take on Ely at their Station Road, Wenvoe stadium (7.30pm).

This is the first round tie to be played with the majority scheduled for this Sunday (1.30pm).

Rhyl were due to play Llanberis on Wednesday, but that was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Goalkeeper George Ratcliffe, Adam Sharif, Jack Bodenham, Ryan Reynolds, Sion Spence and James Waite are Cardiff players selected for the Wales under-19 squad, who play Switzerland next month (see details below).

All six could be involved for City in the Welsh Youth Cup match against Ely.

Among other players in Cardiff’s squad for the match at Ely are central midfield player Sam Bowen, the son of former Bluebirds’ playmaker Jason who is from the Caerleon area, attacking player Isaak Davies, from Cwmdare in the Cynon Valley, and Kieron Proctor, a left-sided midfield player from Cardiff.

Bluebirds fans are welcome to support the club’s young prospects with adult tickets costing £2 on the night.
