County Short On Attacking Numbers For Home Clash

Newport County are aiming to earn their first League Two win at Rodney Parade in almost three months when Swindon Town visit this afternoon (3pm).

The Exiles will also be hoping to bounce-back from defeat against Stevenage, while the Robins travel to South Wales knowing that they are running out of time in their quest for mounting a late charge towards the play-offs.

Swindon have lost only once in six matches since Phil Brown took charge as manager following the departure of David Flitcroft to Mansfield Town.

Shawn McCoulsky, Paul Hayes and Marlon Jackson are all ruled out of the County team against Swindon with Padraig Amond and Frank Nouble the only senior forwards available.

“We’re struggling up front and I’ve joked about putting myself up there, but I’ve got no chance,” said Newport manager Michael Flynn.

“I’m nowhere near fit enough and I’d rather put one of the youth team boys on.”

County are also likely to be without centre-back Mark O’Brien and Flynn says: “We have forward thinking players and it just depends on whether we go with a three or a two up front,” he explained.

“Personally, I prefer the two but at some points throughout the season we’ve been more suited to the three.”
