A poor third quarter cost the Welsh netball team a first win at the Commonwealth Games as they fell 51-47 to Scotland.
It was a much improved result on the disappointing 52-40 in Perth in January in the World Cup qualifying competition, but a 15-9 reverse in the third quarter blew Welsh hopes of building on their encouraging opening round defeat to New Zealand.
Goal Shooter Chelsea Lewis scored with 39 of her 48 shots to notch an 81% conversion rate and her accuracy around the net allowed Wales to steal the first quarter 12-11 and draw the second, 12-12.
But Beth Goodwin helped the Scots to move clear in the third phase and she ended with an 84% success rate with 38 goals from 45 attempts.
Trailing 38-33 moving into the final quarter, Wales upped the tempo and forced seven turnovers as they ended with a 14-13 score. But that still wasn’t enough to earn them the win they wanted as they ended four goals down.
They now have to prepare to play England in their next Pool B clash on Monday.
