Devils Out To Keep The Clan’s Trio Of Hot-Shots Quiet

Ryan Finnerty’s Braehead Clan insist they have the three best players in Elite League ice hockey – and they have the statistics to back up their claim.

Former Devils captain Finnerty is the Clan coach who has steered his team to fifth in the League table and they take on Cardiff in a League match at their Glasgow arena on Sunday (6pm).

Braehead’s Matt Beca, Scott Pitt and Alex Leavitt head the Elite scoring lists, having netted more than 50 goals between them.

The trio have a total of 120 points.

“We’re lucky to have Matt, Scott and Alex in our line-up, all are very talented players and I believe the three best players in the league right now,” said Gareth Chalmers.

“While points don’t always tell the full story, all three have been unplayable at times this season.

“The fact that they’re one, two and three in EIHL scoring is testament to what they are bringing to our organisation.”

Braehead’s claim that their three forwards are better than Cardiff’s Joey Martin and Sean Bentivoglio, who are also among the top 10 scorers, can be questioned as Clan are in the Gardner Conference and play the majority of their fixtures against Edinburgh, Dundee, Fife and Manchester.

Devils take on the big guns Sheffield, Nottingham, Belfast and Coventry in a total of 32 fixtures in the Erhardt Conference, while they face the five northern clubs only 20 times.

Cardiff’s Canadian forward Martin led the league in scoring during 2015-16, registering 31 goals and 56 assists for 87 points in 66 games. He won League player of the year and forward of the year awards to go along with being selected to the Elite League first all-star team for the second season in a row.

He was also voted Devils forward of the year, fans most valuable plater and players player.

Devils end of season awards night, picking up Forward of the Year, Fans MVP, and Players’ Player of the Year.

This weekend captain Jake Morissette and his Devils play Coventry Blaze at Ice Arena Wales on Saturday before travelling to take on Braehead in Scotland the next evening.

Ticket information for the Coventry match is available on the Devils official website or via the hotline on 0800 0842 666.
