Cardiff Bay Run Travel Guide

Cardiff Bay Run Travel Guide

Calling all runners! Enjoy Sunday’s Cardiff and Vale College Cardiff Bay Run without congestion by following our race-day travel guide.

More than 6,000 people will flock to Cardiff’s iconic Bay to take part in Wales’ second-largest running event this weekend. We advise competitors and supporters to follow our simple tips to maximise your enjoyment at what promises to be an event to remember.

There will be major disruption to train services because of work to rail lines this weekend. Buses will replace trains into Cardiff from Penarth, Cogan, Barry and Bridgend, while there will be no regular service from Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay.

With this in mind, traffic will be heavy coming into the city, so leave plenty of time before your race to get to Cardiff Bay. The Family Fun Run kicks off the day at 10:05am before the main 10K race begins an hour later.

Some temporary road closures will be in place on the day along Lloyd George Avenue and Pierhead Street in order to ensure the safety of all runners. These will only be in place between 10am and 1.30pm, allowing enough time for participants to safely arrive and leave the race.

Event day parking will be available at County Hall for £3, but arrive early to prevent queues. Alternatively, you can park at one of the Bay’s pay and display carparks at Mermaid Quay or Pierhead Street.

If you live closer to the event, please also consider cycling or walking to the event to save on CO2 emissions and congestion.
