The Carabao Cup draw tonight could result in a Welsh derby, but that won’t be Cardiff City v Swansea City.
Both are seeded in the second round which means they can’t be drawn against each other, but either could face League Two Newport County.
Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock made it clear after the 2-1 win against Portsmouth that wants to play Premier League opposition, home or away, but that won’t happen.
Cardiff are seeded alongside the Premier teams who come in at this stage.
Those teams who are not involved in European football are on tonight’s draw, while Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham step in for the third round.
United are the current holders, while Manchester City have won the trophy twice in the last four years. Chelsea were winners in 2015, while Swansea City lifted the trophy two years earlier.
The draw takes place this evening, following the tie between Sunderland and Bury at Gigg Lane. If there is no extra time at Bury the draw should be at around 9.45pm.
Games will be played during the week starting August 21.
