Andy Morrison and his Connah’s Quay Nomads team are well up for the cup.

They defeated six-times Welsh Cup winners The New Saints 2-1 to set up a semi-final tie against Bangor City, who had defeated Penydarren BGC 7-0 on Sunday.

Williamson, an Inverness-born Scot, was delighted with his team after their win against TNS, saying: “It’s reward for a fantastic performance.

“We came up with something brave to cause Saints problems and we did. No end of problems. I am absolutely delighted with every player.

“TNS huffed and puffed, but we had three attacks cleared off the line. It was an immense performance.

“Saints’ record in the cup is phenomenal and we said let’s be brave and have a right go at them.”

Former Manchester City and Huddersfield Town defender Morrison, 47, is delighted with a draw that pits his Nomads team against Bangor in the semi-finals.

“I cannot wait for the Bangor game,” says Morrison. “In our last match against Bangor we dominated the game and have absolutely nothing to fear.

“They are probably doing cartwheels in Bangor tonight that TNS are out, but we will have a massive say in where the Welsh Cup goes this season.”

TNS went ahead thanks to an Aeron Edwards goal, but Nomads hit back when Michael Bakare scored from a free-kick.

Nomads went ahead after 50 minutes at Deeside Stadium when Andy Owens was brought down in the penalty area and Callum Morris scored the resulting penalty.

Llandudno manager Iwan Williams had to take over in goal during his teams JD Welsh Cup tie against Newtown at Maesdu Park.

The former Caernarfon Town team boss was beaten once and Newtown emerged 2-1 winners and now play Aberystwyth Town in the semi-finals.

Patrick Rutter, Llandudno’s goalkeeper, saved a Newtown penalty, diving to push Alex Fletcher’s shot away, but he was beaten when Neil Mitchell fired home after 23 minutes.

Newtown led 1-0 at half-time and Llandudno’s fate was sealed after Rutter was dismissed after 88 minutes. Manager Williams was among the substitutes and took over in goal.

He went forward for a late set piece, but Newtown broke and Nick Rushton ran the length of the pitch to score into an empty net and  complete a 2-0 win.

The win earns Newtown a Mid Wales derby tie with Aberystwyth Town in the last four.
