More than 2,000 Bluebird fans will be at the Madejski Stadium for Saturday’s Championship clash against Reading (3pm).
There are still plenty of tickets available in the away section – priced between £10 and £20 – and Cardiff City are certain to have loud and proud support.
Manager Neil Warnock has a busy few days ahead with the trip to Reading followed by a home match against Preston North End next Tuesday, which is also the final day of this January transfer window.
That closes at 11pm and Warnock is still keen to bring in at least one new signing by the deadline, while others may go out.
Striker Idriss Saadi, currently on loan at Cardiff’s sister club Kortrijk in Belgium, could be among those who move on.
Saadi has fired 10 goals for Kortrijk and Warnock says: “We have talked about Idriss, but I can’t see him coming back to Cardiff this month. There have been one or two offers for him and they will be considered.”
Cardiff’s manager also said there is the possibility of a swap deal involving an unnamed Bluebirds fringe player.
“I don’t know what will happen between now and Tuesday,” admitted Warnock. “I would like to bring in one, maybe two, and there is an opportunity to sign one and let another go who is not involved at the moment. That would be a swap deal.”
The next five fixtures for City are against Reading (away), Preston (home), Norwich City (home), Leeds United (away) and Derby County (away), a series which Warnock concedes is a ‘tough run of fixtures’.
Cardiff are eight points clear of the relegation zone with 19 Championship matches left this season. The bottom three are Burton Albion, Blackburn Rovers and Rotherham United.
“We have to make sure we keep away from relegation danger,” says Warnock. “We need 17 more points to be certain. Maybe 15, but I think it will be 17.
“Forget the play-offs. We are nowhere near good enough to get there right now.
“We will enjoy the challenge at Reading. There is always a good atmosphere there. They are in a situation which we would like to be in at this stage next season.”
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam is reading’s manager and he has led them into fourth place with a good chance of qualifying for the play-offs.
Anthony Pilkington is ruled out by injury at Reading, although he could be ready to play against Preston at home next Tuesday, while centre-half Bruno Manga arrived back from the Africa Cup of Nations this weekend.
He will have a scan on Monday and Warnock says: “He has ligament trouble and it’s a worry that he will miss the rest of this season.
“We need to know on Monday because of deadline day, but I fear the worst.”
