Ben Llewellin Says Shooting Silver For Wales Feels Fantastic

Ben Llewellin just missed out on what would have been a fourth gold medal in one day for Wales at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old shooter had to settle for silver after he was just edged out by Cypriot Georgios Achilleos in the men’s skeet.

Llewellin, whose father David is a former British rally champion, hit 56 of his 60 targets to clinch silver.

But that prompted Achilleos to produce a Games record total of 57 to take gold.

Earlier in the day, Llewellin had comfortably made the final as the second best qualifier, again behind Achilleos, with the top six going through to the final.

“What a fantastic feeling,” said Llewellin.

“Being out there representing Wales, and having the support behind me in the crowd cheering for each target was an amazing experience.”

Northern Ireland’s Gareth McAuley, 25, took bronze by hitting 45 out of his 50 targets on the Gold Coast.
