Welsh Athletics has named a 34-strong team to take on England in an under-20 indoor international in Cardiff on Sunday.

As well as the best young athletes from either side of the Severn Bridge going head to head, the meeting will feature guest senior athletes in selected events.

The senior Welsh indoor 3,000m championships will also be staged during what promises to be an action-packed afternoon at the National Indoor Athletics arena.

Headlining for the Welsh team in the international match will be Cardiff sprint duo Jeremiah Azu and Emmanuella Kone, who last weekend shone at the English age group championships.

Azu, who narrowly missed out on a place in the Great Britain senior squad at this weekend’s European Athletics Championships in Glasgow, completed the under-20 sprint double in Sheffield, while Kone won gold in the under-17 60m.

Azu will run in the 60m alongside Zachary Price, while Kone lines-up in the 200m with Gabrielle Fakande.

Gabrielle Fakande will compete in the 200m in Cardiff.

Two other gold medallist from the English Championships, Newport’s Remi Adebiyi and Cardiff’s Ben Reynolds, will also represent Wales in the 800m.

The field events see Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist Sarah Omoregie compete in the shot put, where Nicholas Young, who claimed a bronze last weekend in Sheffield, will be joined by Patrick Harris in the men’s event.

The meeting promises to be a busy one for Cardiff’s Lauren Evans, who competes in the 60m hurdles and the high jump.

Sunday’s action starts at 11.15am with the men’s and women’s shot put. The full time table is available on the Welsh Athletics website.
