Alliance Top Two Set For Crunch Clash At The Oval

Airbus Broughton have moved to within a point of Huws Gray Alliance leaders Caernarfon Town – and the top two clash this weekend.

The Wingmakers won 3-0 at Flint Town United and now travel to Caernarfon’s Oval stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

Airbus completed an Alliance double against Flint thanks to goals from Kristian Platt, Lewis Buckley and Alfons Fosu-Mensah.

The early chances were created by hosts Flint with Carl Rodgers firing just over the bar and Stefan Halewood heading narrowly wide from a Joe Palmer free kick.

Danny Taylor set-up a chance for Airbus when he found Fosu-Mensah, who failed to find the target after neatly side-stepping his marker.

Kyle Smyth drew a good save from goalkeeper Dave Roberts, while Nathan Quirk curled an effort just wide of the Flint goal before Airbus took the lead when Platt headed home from a corner after 32 minutes.

Four minutes later the lead was doubled after Niki Lee-Bulmer, in goal for Flint, parried a Buckley shot. The home team failed to clear and Buckley was left with a simple lob into an empty net just before half-time.

The hosts had Stefan Halewood sent off for a second booking after 52 minutes before Fosu-Mensah sealed the win with a well-taken goal just before the hour.

Flint finished strongly and Roberts saved from Andy Brown and Chris Budrys to keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Penrhyncoch took an early lead at home against Caersws through Stef Davies and doubled their advantage after 34 minutes through Jon Evans.

Tom Bowen brought Cws back into the game six minutes before the break from a fierce free-kick. Seven minutes into the second half Luke Sherbon equalised and earned Caersws a draw.

Tuesday night’s fixture between FC Queens Park and Denbigh Town, scheduled to be played at Cefn Druids, was postponed
