Aberystwyth 1 Cefn Druids 0
Aberystwyth Town ended Cefn Druids’ seven-game unbeaten run after John Owen netted his side a deserved three points at Park Avenue.
The Seasiders recorded a successive WPL win to temporarily climb out of the relegation zone as Nev Powell’s side continue to improve.
Aber looked to pick up where they left off following last weekend’s victory over Prestatyn.
And both teams started brightly on the front foot.
Declan Walker drove into the area to force Michael Jones into an early save as Aberystwyth let their attacking intent known.
Ashley Ruane stabbed a tricky effort wide for the visitors but it was to be a quiet night for the Druids marksman, who was deprived of service.
Aber mustered two of the opening half’s best chances when an outstretched Borrelli attempted to slide in on Ryan Wade’s inviting delivery, and another marauding run from right-back Walker was saved by the feet of goalkeeper Jones.
The chances continued to fall to Aberystwyth in the second half as the game gradually slipped away from the Druids.
Rookie Matthew Jones had a dangerous shot charged down before sending a diving header at the far post back across the face of the Druids goal after it had evaded Michael Jones.
The deadlock was finally broken in less dramatic circumstances as John Owen latched onto a pass to score his second in as many games, causing a surge of confidence in the Aberystwyth attack.
Both Owen and Ryan Wade sought a second goal in order to put the game beyond doubt as Cefn Druids appeared to run out of steam.
Aberystwyth will have little time to savour an important win however as they visit Bangor City on Tuesday night.
