Olympic champ Williams and Sky F1 pundit Jardine join forces to tackle Wales Rally GB

Olympic Champ Williams Ready To Tackle Welsh Forests

Amy Williams will take on a huge sporting challenge when she competes as a co-driver in Dayinsure Wales Rally GB, the penultimate round of the World Rally Championship later this month.

The Olympic gold medalist will go from sliding down ice tracks to sliding through Welsh forests as she looks to successfully navigate Sky Sports News Formula One pundit Tony Jardine hurtling through the unpredictable gravel tracks of the Welsh forests at high speed from October 27 to 30.

The rally challenge is part of Amy’s ‘Sliding to Success 2018’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of Team GB’s presence at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Williams said: “The Summer Olympics in Rio this year once again captured the imagination of the country, and I want to help the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang create that same buzz – it’s about raising awareness that Team GB are doing great things in winter sports too.

“For example, people will undoubtedly have incredibly fond memories of being gripped to the curling in 2002 as Rhona Martin cast that winning stone and that just shows the passion that sport can evoke in this country.

“The challenge at Dayinsure Wales Rally GB provides great parallels to skeleton in the Winter Olympics, both need precision, bravery and fitness as you slide at high speed.

“Tony is putting all his trust in me and one wrong-reading of my pace notes could put us in a spot of bother!

“I’m used to being in an individual sport where I’m fully responsible for my own destiny and I’m determined to not let him down and to finish as high as we can.”

The duo will be competing in the national class of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB, in a PlayStation®4 backed Mitsubishi Evo VII car.

Jardine has four class podiums in his impressive 20 Dayinsure Wales Rally GB appearances, and isn’t ruling out adding to that with Amy in the passenger seat.

“I’m really looking forward to having Amy reprising her role as my co-driver for this year’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB,” he said.

“She’s an incredible sportswoman and I’m sure she’ll rise to the challenge when faced with the tricky task of reading the huge amount of pace notes and navigation she has to take in.

“I’d like to extend a huge thanks to my sponsors PlayStation 4, MIS Insurance, Total fuel and Kumho Tyres for making this possible and I can’t wait to take on the rally again!”

This is the second time the pair have teamed up for the rally, after winning GpN and finishing 26th overall in their previous appearance in 2013.
