Wales prop Aaron Jarvis is leaving the Ospreys for French giants Clermont Auvergne.

The tight-head, who has won 16 caps, will move on at the end of the season and will become the latest current international to try his luck in the lucrative Top14.

Although Jarvis is in the current Six Nations squad, he has been released back to the Ospreys this weekend and is unlikely to figure against England at Twickenham next Saturday.

He is behind current first choice Samson Lee and back-up Tom Francis in the pecking order for the Wales No.3 shirt and his decision to play in France could signal the end of his Test career.

Wales coach Warren Gatland is likely to be restricted to picking just three players based outside of Wales next season.

The former Bath forward is out of contract with the Ospreys this summer and at the age of 29 he has not been offered a dual contract between the regions and the Welsh Rugby Union.

Jarvis said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Ospreys and am proud of everything we’ve achieved over the last five years.

“There’s still a job to do this season though and I’ll be giving it everything to ensure I finish on a high before moving on to a fresh challenge with my new club.”

After European champions Toulon, Clermont are arguably the wealthiest club in France and are desperate to knock their domestic rivals off their perch.

Jarvis’s move comes at a time when Clermont’s current Welsh international, Lions centre Jonathan Davies, has agreed to return to Wales to join the Scarlets next season.

Jarvis, 29, was capped by England at U16 and U19 level but qualifies for Wales through his grandmother.
