Rhiwbina’s Creed Flying Welsh Flag At Llantrisant Open

Peter Creed is flying the Welsh flag in the PSA Satellite Llantrisant Open semi-finals.

Caerphilly-born Creed, from the Rhiwbina club, won his quarter-final against Lewis Doughty in straight games and plays Tom Ford in the last four.

Manchester-born Doughty, aged 28 and ranked at 189 in the World, was beaten 11-4, 11-6, 1.

Ford will face Creed in the last four on Sunday morning, He won in straight games against Jack Turney in his quarter-final.

The 25-year-old Ford, who is from Worcester originally and lives in Cheltenham, has a World highest ranking of 60.

Top seed Nathan Lake from Gloucestershire is among three English players through to the semis alongside Creed.

Lake, a 26-year-old left-hander who plays out of the East Glos Club in Cheltenham, powered into the last four with a straight games success against James Peach.

The World number 61 plays Patrick Rooney from St Helen’s on Merseyside in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Rooney, aged 22, is number 78 in the men’s World rankings.

Llanishen SRC players have made solid progress in the men’s B and men’s C events.

James Powell defeated Dan Webb and Joe Eason on his way to the B event semi-finals. He played a tough match against Eason before emerging the winner 11-5, 4-11, 12-10, 11-8.

Jonathan Rifflart from Llanishen is through to the men’s C last four after beating Rich Timms and Joshua Davies, both in straight games.

The mixed D semi-finals feature Oliver Cann v Shivam Singhai; James Jones v Gareth Heyes. 

There is the prospect of an all-Maybury family final in the mixed D plate semi-finals.

The Maybury family play out of Llantrisant. Lucy plays Sam Norris in her semi-final, while brother Ashley takes on Jack Penberthy.
