Welsh forward Matthew Myers reflected on Great Britain’s 9-0 World Championship defeat against Denmark and said: “It wasn’t us out there against Denmark and it hurt us.
“We were a shadow of ourselves from the match against Germany on the first night and it reflected on the scoreboard.”
Cardiff Devils player Myers says the team need to put their heavy defeat by Denmark behind them quickly as they return straight back to World Championship action this afternoon against the USA.
GB are without a win in their first three matches, having lost against Germany (1-3), Canada (0-8) and Denmark at the Steel Arena in Kosice.
The USA, ranked fourth in the world, currently sit fifth in the eight-team group with five points from eight matches.
“We have just got to forget about Denmark and put it behind us,” says Myers.
“There were so many negative things and there will have been some good things, but just not enough of them.
“We need to have short memories as players and put it behind us. The coaches will do their thing and we will come back ready against USA.”
The Danes, ranked 12th in the world to GB’s 22nd, were 8-0 up after two periods before Morten Poulsen completed his hat-trick with a short-handed goal.
Myers added: “It was disappointing, a hugely disappointing game to play in.
“We are a shadow of ourselves from the first night and it reflected on the scoreboard. It wasn’t us out there against Denmark and it hurt us.”
Myers is one of five Devils players in the GB squad along with Ben Bowns, Thomas Murdy, Mark Richardson and Evan Mosey.
Captain Jonathan Phillips, Ben Davies and Joey Lewis are other Welsh players in the group.
GB and USA face-off at 4:15pm (3:15pm UK) this afternoon in the Steel Arena.
