Marwan Leads Welsh Wizards Squash Challenge

Egyptian ace Marwan ElShorbagy leads Welsh Wizards into their final Premier Squash League fixture of the season against Bexley in Cardiff tonight (Friday).

ElShorbagy, who defeated brother Mohamed in his last Wizards appearance, plays first string for the Welsh club, while World women’s number nine Tesni Evans is also included.

Team manager David Evans and his Wizards have made an impact during their first PSL season and aim to finish on a high note with a win against Bexley at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff.

Emyr Evans, Elliott Morris Devred and Welsh teenager Lewis Poole are the other players for Wizards.

The 17-year-old Poole, a highly promising player who is ranked number one in Wales’ under-19 age group, has been called up for his Wizards debut and David Evans says: “It will excellent exposure and experience e for Lewis.”

PSL fixtures tonight (Friday, April 5): UWE/Elite Squash Bristol v University of Nottingham, Welsh Wizards v Bexley, Coolhurst v Luxfords St George’s Hill

WarwickKenilworth and Pontefract have qualified for the PSL play-off semi-finals.

They have completed regular season fixtures.

In the final round of PSL league matches Warwick/Kenilworth secured top spot in the Northern division with a 3-2 home win over Newcastle, while Pontefract squeezed into the semis despite a 2-3 defeat at Birmingham Lions.

Former World number three Marwan ElShorbagy from Egypt met Welsh Wizards’ fans. Marwan plays at number one this evening.

That clash was a second place decider which left the rivals level on points. Pontefract’s greater number of wins was the deciding factor.

In the Southern Division Tradition@RAC, already assured of a semi-final spot, finished with a comprehensive 5-0 win home win over Chichester.

That set defending champions St George’s Hill a target of nine points to top the table in their final match on Friday.
